About the Role:
The cloud is just someone else's computer. Would you like it to be yours? We have an international, fully remote team working on creating the best virtualization platform around, and we'd like you to join. In this role, you will be helping to manage the underlying hardware powering Civo, working with cutting-edge technology, and making a daily difference supporting users by giving them a platform on which to build awesome new things.
You are passionate about optimizing performance for advanced hardware systems and enjoys implementing metrics and analytics tools to determine where performance improvements can be made. This includes everything from networking, storage, server hardware and more! You'll get to work directly with the latest virtualization technologies, implement, and adapt to the latest advancements in cloud technologies. You'll hear directly from the customers, being able to address current user issues to improve the overall platform experience with fast feedback loops and fast iteration.
Responsibilities:
- Participate in validating and maintaining the physical hardware (servers & networking) that drives the Civo cloud platform
- Collaborate with other project teams as well as SRE and non-technical teams to deliver features that enhances Civo's overall platform capabilities
- Ensure stability, performance and reliability through comprehensive testing and optimization
- Collaborate with designers, product managers and other engineers to translate requirements into technical solutions
- Participate in troubleshooting and debugging technical issues
Requirements:
- 2+ years of professional experience with Linux
- 2+ years of professional experience with server hardware
- Proven experience with virtualisation technologies (e.g. Docker, Kubernetes, KVM)
- Proven experience with scripting or coding languages (e.g. Bash, Python, Perl, Go)
- Understanding of network and firewalling, including configuration and troubleshooting
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related field, or proven related professional experience
Nice to have:
- Familiarity with storage technologies (e.g. Ceph, SANs, etc)
- Familiarity with cloud platforms
- Familiarity with version control systems (Git)
- Understanding of cloud-native patterns
- Experience with data centres
- Proximity to the UK M1 corridor to support testing and validation of hardware
